The Middle Ages are also called the Dark Ages, primarily for the sweeping, disease induced death that gripped Europe, northern Africa and the Middle East, but also because so little came from it in the terms of intellectual or artistic innovation. Then, the 14th century, from Florence, there was a rebirth, politically, intellectually and perhaps most famously, artistically.
People like Leonardo da Vinci and Michaelangelo brought a new found interest in sculpture, science and all manner of other fields of study. Raphael brought innovation to painting that would influence the tradecraft for literally centuries to follow. Donatello crafted his own genre of bas-relief illusionism. Basically, the three hundred years revived the humanities and launched the world towards a brighter future.
Anyways, what I’m trying to say is we have a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, and someone has invented the genre of “dog as hockey player”. The second Renaissance is nigh.
