Puck Dumps 1/12/14

This time a year ago, the hockey season hadn't even started.

The Top Line

The Canadiens defeated the Blackhawks at home in a surprisingly well covered event. ESPN, Yahoo, Sports Illustrated, TSN, The Local Take #1, The Local Take #2

Scoreboard

Tampa Bay 6, Philadelphia 3 – The Lightning struck frequently in Philadelphia. Feel free to use that pun, headline writers.

New Jersey 2, Florida 1 (OT) – Marek Zidlicky had the game winner in overtime, which is a thing that can happen.

Columbus 6, Winnipeg 3 – This was the final straw for Claude Noel, who was fired by the Jets and replaced by Paul Maurice this morning.

Montreal 2, Chicago 1 (OT) – In case you didn't click on any of the links above, Andrei Markov scored twice, and both goalies stood on their heads.

Ottawa 2, Nashville 1 (SO) – I wonder how many Senators fans made the trip to Nashville to see Ottawa pass the Maple Leafs in the standings. ASAS

Anaheim 5, Phoenix 3 – I wonder how popular the name Hampus is in Sweden.

Colorado 4, Minnesota 2 – The Avs took over in the 3rd for the win, but Charlie Coyle scored Minnesota's 2 goals faster than it took to write this blurb.

Pittsburgh 2, Calgary 1 – Pittsburgh's tour of Alberta continuued. I wonder if the Penguins being there would make people think about the Flames and Oilers. Instead, I had all but forgotten about Pittsburgh.

Detroit 3, Los Angeles 1 – Behind the scenes: While trying to think of something to write here, I accidentally went back on my web browser and lost the whole post because there is no autosave. I blame the Red Wings.

Boston 1, San Jose 0 – Now this is a good game. One late goal decides a game between two good teams.
